South High School in Downers Grove to Host Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk on April 16
Proceeds will benefit Gift of Hope Community Foundation
The Downers Grove South High School Key Club is hosting its annual Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk to benefit Gift of Hope Community Foundation on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at South High School in Downers Grove. Race registration for adults is $25 and students are $20. Race participants can register online or by mailing in a form to South High Key Club by April 13.
“Our annual Mustang Trot is a fun community event and is always a great way to welcome spring,” says Amy Klug, South High Counselor and Key Club adviser. Funds collected this year will support Gift of Hope Community Foundation, which raises funds for education, research and development and programs for the families of organ and tissue donors.
“Our charity this year was selected to honor the legacy of Rebecca Meyers Tomecki, mother of one of our Key Club officers, who suffered a sudden brain aneurysm and passed away leaving the community heartbroken,” explains Klug. “Gift of Hope did everything they could to comfort the family and to manage to successfully give five people new organs.”
Credit cards can only be used for online registration. Walk-in registration will be available on race day, from 8-8:45 a.m., for $30, regardless of participant's age. If a community member does not want to participate in the run/walk, they can still make a donation to the Gift of Hope Community Foundation. The race begins at 9 a.m. with packet pick-up and registration starting at 8 a.m.
The Mustang Trot race will begin and end on Norfolk Street near the visitor parking lot at South High School. Pre and Post-race festivities will take place in the Large Gym, which can be accessed by the West Events Entrance.
