Ten students from South High School in Downers Grove competed and placed in several categories at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Journalism Competition.
Congratulations to the following students earning individual state medals:
- Jake Hahn: 5th place in Copy Editing (South High)
- Kassem Ossman, Gwen Royle and Sammy Bachara: 5th place in Video News (South High)
- Claire Valenti: 6th place in Yearbook Caption Writing (South High)
Additional competitors from South High were Abby Culcasi, Michael Piotrowski, Abby Durkin, Ryan Rosignal and Amanda Despres.
"It was really exciting for our students to be able to compete in person again,” says South High English teacher and Blueprint Newspaper adviser Mary Long. “The students worked hard all year learning about journalism, and they all did great at the competition. They were able to meet other students with similar interests and talents. I hope this is a positive experience they will remember forever. They are a talented group of students."
