District 99 celebrates 12th grade students who have earned academic honors based on the culmination of grade point averages after seven semesters of their high school career. For the 2020-21 school year, 31 South High students achieved the designation of “Distinguished Honors” after receiving a cumulative 4.4 or higher weighted grade point average after seven semesters in high school. In addition, 249 South High students achieved the designation of “High Honors” or “Honors” after receiving a cumulative 4.0 or higher or 3.4 or higher weighted grade point average. “These students have consistently achieved a very high level of academic performance throughout their high school years, which is an impressive accomplishment especially during these unusual times,” says District 99 Superintendent Dr. Hank Thiele. “Their academic excellence and resiliency will serve them well in all of their future endeavors.”
District 99 follows a 4.0 grade point scale. Students receive both a non-weighted and weighted GPA at the end of each grading period. If a student takes Honors or Advanced Placement classes, the student’s GPA can exceed 4.0, depending on the grades earned. At the graduation ceremonies, graduates will wear gold stoles, cords and/or tassels to indicate their level of academic achievement.
