Eight DGS Student-Athletes Sign Letters of Intent

Congratulations, DGS student-athletes!

On National Letter of Intent Signing Day, Nov. 14, eight DGS student-athletes committed to playing their sport at the collegiate level. Parents, grandparents, other family members, coaches, and the DGS administration helped recognize and honor the following individuals:

  • Lucy Dumford (High Point University) -- Volleyball
  • Maggie Greco (George Washington University) -- Softball
  • Michael Hoes (Belmont Abbey) -- Baseball
  • Annie Leinart (University of Nebraska Omaha) -- Swimming
  • Holly Lueken (Colgate University) -- Basketball
  • Randi McKay (University of Wisconsin Green Bay) -- Softball
  • Becky Versaskas (Missouri Science & Technology) – Cross Country
  • Melissa Weidner (University of Dayton) – Cross Country

Below is more information on each student-athlete, from DGS Athletics Director Randy Konstans:

Lucy Dumford
High Point University
Lucy is a 3-year varsity starter here at DGS as a pin hitter (outside and right side).  She is also a 3-year All Conference player in the WSC (2016, 2017, 2018), all-tournament team at Rich East Invite in 2018, Team MVP in 2017 and 2018, and Varsity Team Captain in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, she was top in kills with 287 and third in blocks with 49 blocks for kills. She also contributed 54 digs. Not only is Lucy an outstanding athlete, she is a high achieving and hardworking student as well as a great leader and young lady. The Mustangs will greatly miss Lucy in the future.

Maggie Greco
George Washington University

Maggie will be a 3-year varsity starter this year at DGS as a short stop. Maggie is a 2-year all conference player in the WSC. She was brought up as a freshman in 2016 for the post season with the team that placed 3rd in the IHSA State Tournament. Maggie was selected to the Voyager Media All Area Team in 2018. Last season Maggie had the highest batting average on the team, batting .506, tied the team high in hits with 45, lead the team in stolen bases at 22, and lead the team in triples with 3. Maggie's competitive nature and attitude makes her one toughest athlete. We are excited to hear about all of the great things she will do at George Washington University. Maggie, your team and coaches wish you the best!

Michael Hoes
Belmont Abbey

Mike will be a 3-year starter for our varsity team this spring.  Mike has played 2B, SS, and now 3B.   Mike has also been both a starting pitcher and reliever.  Mike is a lifetime .330 hitter for the Mustangs with over 50 hits in the past two seasons. Mike has been and will continue to be a leader both on and off the field and serves as one of our team captains.

Annie Leinart
University of Nebraska Omaha

Annie is a 16-time All-Conference athlete, 2-time All-Academic, 2-time State Qualifier, a member of the School Record in the 400 Free Relay. She is also a 4-year varsity letter earner, and was a member on each of the last 4 Conference Championship Teams.
  
Holly Lueken
Colgate University

Holly Lueken is a 4-year varsity basketball player for Downers Grove South.  Holly is a 3-year All-Conference player for the WSC.  She was voted Honorable Mention All-State and voted to the All-Area Basketball team during the 2017-18 season.  Holly was named the 2017-18 team MVP by her teammates and coaches as she led the team in scoring at 17.2 points per game and reached a huge milestone of scoring her 1000th point.  Other outstanding stats from the 2017-18 for Holly were: averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, averaging 2 blocks per game, and shooting 74% from the free throw line.  Through three years of basketball, Holly has been a phenomenal addition to our Mustang Family as she is a great player, teammate, and leader.

Randi McKay
University of Wisconsin Green Bay

Randi will be a 4-year varsity starter here at DGS as a center fielder, 2nd basemen and pitcher. Randi is a 3-year all conference player in the WSC. She was the starting center fielder in 2016 when the team placed 3rd at the IHSA State Tournament. Randi was selected to the Voyager Media All Area Team in 2017 and 2018, and received Honorable Mention in the DuPage County All-Area Softball team (2018). Randi was also selected as the team's MVP for the 2017 season. Last season Randi had the second highest batting average on the team with .500, tied the team with hits at 45. On the mound, Randi pitched 113 innings with a 2.04 ERA striking out 134 with a changeup that makes others look silly. Randi has been a leader of the program and she will do wonderful things at Wisconsin Green Bay. Your team and coaches wish you the best in this next chapter! 

Becky Versaskas
Missouri Science & Technology.
 GO MINERS
Becky is a 4-year varsity letter earner in both Cross Country and Track & Field. She is a member of the cross country teams that have placed 20th, 4th, 5th, and 3rd in state the past 4 years. She was All-Conference in cross country in all 4 years, a member of the IHSA State 3rd place 4x800m relay team and also school record holder in the 4x800m relay.

Melissa Weidner
University of Dayton.
GO FLYERS -- Majoring in Business & Sustainability.
Melissa is a 4-year varsity letter earner in both Cross Country and Track & Field. She is a member of the cross country teams that have placed 20th, 4th, 5th, and 3rd in state the past 4 years. She earned All-Regional honors twice and All-Sectional honors once. Melissa has the fastest 3-mile time by a senior at DGS (17:13).  She also won the Sophomore conference race as a Freshman. She is officially, to the decimal, the second fastest 3-mile runner is school history. In track, Melissa was also on the IHSA State Qualifying 4x800m relay team.
