Downers Grove South Recognized as Unified Champion School

Downers Grove South has been recognized by Special Olympics Illinois as a Unified Champion School for their work with Special Olympics Project UNIFY. The program has recognized 18 out of 160 schools in the state that have provided true inclusive experiences for students in all three categories of Project UNIFY: Unified Sports, Youth Leadership, and whole school involvement activities.

"Downers Grove South High School has really embraced the Special Olympics Project Unify Program," says Kevin Ahrens, Downers South Special Services. "This has given all the students at DGS the opportunity to participate in Project Unify events and build relationships with different students in the building that they might not have had the opportunity to meet otherwise."

A formal recognition ceremony for Downers Grove South will take place on May 1 at the spring games competition during Opening Ceremonies.
