The Downers Grove South High School Key Club announces the 4th annual Mustang Trot 5K Run/Walk will take place at McCollum Park in Downers Grove on Sunday, April 10, 2016, from 8 -10 a.m. This year, the race will benefit the D99 Memorial Peace Gardens, an installation at Downers Grove North and South High School honoring the 70 District 99 alumni who lost their lives while bravely serving the United States.
“It’s really fun to see the schools and community all come together for this event each year,” says Klug. “The race this year helps our Memorial Peace Gardens, and that’s something that ties all our students and teachers, even our community, to a piece of our history, and I think that makes this year’s race even more special.”
Registration and packet pick-up will be available from 8 - 8:45 a.m., with the 5K beginning at 9 a.m. Participants will make their way through the surrounding neighborhoods and end near McCollum Park on 67th Street. There will be an award ceremony at 10 a.m. following the race with awards for the overall top male and female finishers, top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each age category, and team awards for fastest average time, best team name, and best team costumes. Each participant may also enter drawings for prizes such as gift certificates and goods from local vendors. All participants must be present to claim prizes.
Participants are encouraged to register online at www.racetime.info by April 7 or submit paper registrations by April 8 to Amy Klug at Downers Grove South, 1436 Norfolk, Downers Grove, IL 60516. Registration is also available the day of the race for an extra fee. Pre-registration cost for the 5K is $25 per adult and $20 per student. Race day registration is $30 for everyone.
Parking for the event is available at McCollum Park and at the businesses across the street. There will be no gear check at this event.
