DGS Students Earn DECA Sectional Awards

On February 2, 2016, Downers South High School students who are members of DECA competed at the sectional contest in Rosemont. DECA is a club to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs through competitive events and conferences.

The top finishers at DGS include:

• Tiffany Leung - 1st place in Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan and  2nd place in Retail Merchandising 
• The team of Swathi Pillalamarri and Akila Shanmugham - 1st place in Financial Services
• Prince Boadi - 2nd place in Accounting Applications
• Natalie Repole - 2nd place in Principles of Hospitality
• Laura Funk - 2nd place in Quick Serve Restaurant Management
• Kenneth Kruse - 4th place in Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan
• Kyle McMillan - 4th place in Principles of Marketing

The following students placed in the top 10 in their contest and earned a trip to DECA State March 10 - 12, 2016; Sarina Bales, Sarah Ansah in Marketing Communication, Marc Alvarez in Marketing Management, Tyler Smiles in Retail Merchandising, Ronnie Thottaplackal, Prat Budhiraja in Financial Services, Eric Bennet in Principles of Marketing, Jacob Liaromatis in Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Chandana Sooranahalli in Entrepreneurship Innovation Plan and Patrick Leahy in Human Resources Management.
