Enjoy this year's winter play, the WWII drama “Front” by Robert Caisley, on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 at 7 p.m. in the Downers Grove South High School Auditorium. “Front” is a historical tale of perseverance and courage, but in a very real way it is also a story about our current society. The parallels between the world of the play and today’s events are undeniable and give the show an extra dose of timeliness. The various women and men cast in the show play various parts in an effort to bring this world to life through scenes of comedy, drama, song, and more. Admission is $5 for the general public and free for all DGS students.
Synopsis of "Front"
Set in England during the Blitz, a number of struggling individuals and families come to terms with war and the horrors and tragedies it provides. This includes Judith, a proud mother, who works in a factory that makes bomb detonators, her missing husband & soldier Frank, and their two children, Angie and Tom, who are forced to grow up much too quickly. A number of other war-torn individuals are also profiled, each butting heads with the raging war. A poignant account of female perseverance, Front is appropriate for all audiences. The story moves between various locations, in and around London; the entire set will be a bombed-out section of the city with piles of rubble and debris strewn widely about. The takes place action amidst the chaos; the characters are forced to make room for the scene in the middle of the wreckage. Everything used in the play—chairs, tables, props, articles of clothing— can be found hidden in the debris.
