ACTIVITIES

Attention Adventure club:  there will be a meeting today after school in our usual spot (D178).  We will be deciding on which Haunted House you would like to go to!!!!

CALLIOPE:  Please join South’s only student-run magazine, Calliope, for our first meeting of the school year WEDNESDAY, 10/5 at 3:30 in C362.  Calliope publishes student writing and artwork in a magazine that comes out in April.  We need students who are interested in graphic design, photography, editing, and/or writing.  All are welcome!

October is Energy Awareness month.  Did you know that Google accounts for roughly 0.013% of the world’s energy use?  It uses enough energy to continuously power 200,000 homes.  Most of that energy is currently generated by climate-destroying fossil fuels.  Moving to more climate-friendly electricity generation is more important than ever.

Do you want to learn how to dance hip hop? If you love performing or want to learn the fundamentals, then OnKore is the club for you. Please join OnKore for an informational meeting in the Cafetorium TODAY at 3:30 PM. See you then!

Attention Spanish Club:  Please join us for our next meeting on TODAY in D277 at 3:30.   All are welcome. You do not need to be currently taking Spanish to join.  We hope to see you then.  

Are you looking for an additional opportunity to perform? Are you super creative and have a great imagination? Do you have a competitive drive? If you think you might, go visit Mr. Blum in the library any day this week for more information on the "new" Group Interp.  Auditions will be held next week on Wednesday Oct. 12th at 4:30pm in C164. Do you have conflicts or can’t make the audition- Again, go visit Mr. Blum in the library he holds all the answers!

Do you like acting, debate, and public speaking?  Do you want to gain valuable life skills that can translate to any career?  Then join the speech team!  The first official practice is Tuesday, October 11th @ 3:30 in the little theater.  This meeting is for both returning varsity members and students who are interested in joining for the first time! DECA, the business and marketing club, will have our next meeting on Thursday, October 6th at 7:35 in room B327.  New members are always welcomed.  See you Thursday morning at 7:35 in B327.

Attention Juniors:  Registration for the PSAT will end this Friday October 7th.  The PSAT test will be on Wednesday, October 19th.   The link to register can be found on our DGS website under student support services.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT

Congratulations to the boys soccer team on their 3-1 victory over Proviso East last night.  Anthony Alcantara got the Mustangs going with an early first half goal and Ian Wisniewski added two goals to preserve the victory. Way to go Mustangs!

 

The JV tennis team demolished Willowbrook 7-0 Monday night. Special mention goes to Mimi Despotovic who had her best match of the season, stepping up to second singles. Singles player Kaylee Chang finished her conference season undefeated while doubles partners Reese Rhoades and Nicole Fanella aslo came out undefeated at fourth doubles. Good luck at the  Conference tournament, Mustangs!

 

Attention: All GIRLS interested in bowling this year. There will be a mandatory meeting for the girls bowling team on Thursday October 6 at 3:30 in room A204. If you absolutely cannot make the meeting, you must see Coach Topor in the World Languages Department.

 

COLLEGE AND CAREER

 

Attention Seniors:  During your Senior Focus presentation you were informed that your transcript and/or supporting documents will be sent electronically as permitted by the college thru Naviance.  Some college applications have a November 15th  deadline, which is fast approaching.  Make sure your supporting documents are in Naviance before October 14th if you need to meet the November 15th college deadline.

 

If you are interested in attending any of these presentation, you need to sign up on the Naviance Program.
