ACTIVITIES

We will have another Freshman Class Board meeting this Thursday morning at 7:20 in D178 (across from the main office). This is a great way to get involved at DGS while meeting new people! Please feel free to bring friends! Email Mrs. Bormann with any questions at Kbormann@csd99.org.

It’s not too late to join the speech team. If you like acting, public speaking and debate, then speech is perfect for you!  Come to the Novice workshop this Saturday at 9 a.m. in the DGS auditorium.  Watch varsity members and state finalists perform all 14 events.  Breakfast will be provided.  All you have to do is show up and enjoy!

Today is a great day because Go Green starts today! All 8th period classes please put your recycle bins in the hall at the end of school. All Go Green members and those who signed up at Mustang Fury, please come to room D181 after school for our first meeting. We meet every Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30 in room D181.”

Calling all Super Fans, our first “pack the place” is this Thursday!  Come see a double-header of Mustang Action, starting with the Girls Tennis at 4:30 followed by Boys Soccer at 6:30.  This will be your first opportunity to buy your SuperFans Shirt, which will be featured as part of our neon night at the Football game this Friday!

GERMAN CLUB:   Join us in A210 after school TODAY for our first meeting of the year.  You don’t have to be in a German class, so bring a friend.

FRENCH CLUB:  Join us Today for our first meeting after school A207.  We will be discussing upcoming events as well as having a French snack and getting to know each other.  See you there!

SPANISH CLUB:  Please join us for our first meeting of the year on Today in D277 at 3:30.   All are welcome.  You do not need to be currently taking Spanish to join.  We hope to see you then.  

DECA, the business and marketing club.  We will have our next meeting on Thursday, September 15th at 7:35 in room B327.  New members are always welcomed.

Aspiring Homecoming Show Performers:  Be sure to check the official audition schedule for your time assignment.  Please come to the auditorium Today at least 15 minutes prior to your assigned time so you are ready to go when it is your turn to perform.  Auditions are closed, only those auditioning are allowed in the auditorium.  Thanks for your cooperation and good luck!

Do you like to discuss current issues?  Then come to the Politics Club/Model UN meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 7:20 in C265.  Questions – ask your social studies teacher.

Sophomore Class Board will be meeting tomorrow before school at 7:30 a.m. in room C252 to plan for Homecoming events.  All sophomores are welcome.

The time has come for DGS Drama’s fall and winter play auditions.  The two shows give you the opportunity to be in a small cast comedy and a large cast drama.  If you want to act onstage this semester, pick up an audition packet and sign up for an audition time on the drama board in the music hall.  Auditions are on Thursday, September 15th.  See Ms. Rubin or Mr. Haywood with questions.

Come to the first Key Club meeting this Thursday, September 15th @ 3:30 in C264.  Key Club is the world’s largest high school community service organization, and is widely recognized by colleges and universities.  Have fun, make friends, get involved, and make a difference.

The DuPage County Election Commission is providing the opportunity for juniors and seniors to serve as Judges of Elections for the General Election.  In order to serve as an Election Judge a student must be a U.S. citizen with a GPA of 3.0 and complete and mandatory training class by October 22nd.  Applications are available in the Social Studies office (D272).  Completed applications need to be submitted to the Social Studies Office by Thursday, September 22nd.

Have you seen those new solar panels above the cafeteria entrance?  Earth Action Club did that!  The Energy Slam we put on in April 2015 inspired a group of students to join us in our goal of bringing solar panels to DGS.  We are solar-brating this Friday.  Enjoy a sweet Sunkist treat on Friday morning.  During lunch on Friday, we will be selling DGS Goes Solar sunglasses while we bask in some sunny tunes.  Sunglasses are $5.  Support Earth Action Club and look very cool.  Wear them to our next meeting on Tuesday 9/20 after school in C260.  Everyone is welcome.  If you are interested in alternative energy and climate issues, this is the club for you.  See Ms. Quain in C260 with questions. 

COLLEGE AND CAREER

Attention Seniors:  During your Senior Focus presentation you were informed that your transcript and/or supporting documents will be sent electronically as permitted by the college through Naviance.  Some College applications have an October 15th deadline, which is fast approaching.  Make sure your supporting documents are in Naviance before September 16th if you need to meet the October 15th deadline.

Today a representative from Illinois College, Loyola University-Chicago, University of Illinois @ Chicago and the University of Tampa will be here. 

On Friday September 16th, a representative from Cornell College, Vanderbilt University and Roosevelt University will be here.

On Monday September 19th a representative from Grand Valley State University, Indiana University and Johnson & Wales University, will be here. 

If you are interested in attending any of these presentations, you need to sign up on the Naviance Program.

SPORTS ANNOUNCEMENT

The boys’ soccer team participated in the Great Midwest Classic this weekend and finished with a 2-0-1 record.  The Mustangs tied North Central, Friday night and defeated Lawrence North and Brownsburg on Saturday.  A special congratulation to Peter Becht, Garrett Burns and Nick Rohl on being selected to the All-Tournament team.

Any girls’ basketball player not in a fall sport should attend a mandatory meeting regarding pre-season workouts on Thursday, September 15th at 3:30 in Room C164.  See Coach Long if you cannot attend.
