ACTIVITIES

In recognition of Black History Month, we present a page in Black History.

On this date, February 7, 1926 – Negro History Week originated by Carter G. Woodson is observed for the first time. In 1976, it became Black History Month.

Attention all Sophomores:  Course Selection for the 2017-2018 school year is now taking place. You should have received your appointment cards. If you did not, please come to the Counseling Office Room A110 or A109 for a replacement card. It is important for you to keep your appointment time.

Its Crush Can time DGS! Purchase a can of Crush soda and a Valentine card for $1 in the cafeteria during lunch periods today through Thursday. Key Club will deliver them to your love, crush, or friend during the school day on Valentine's Day. Orange Crush is for your crush, Strawberry Crush is for your love, and Grape Crush is for your friend! Buy yours today!

Mustangs, we need YOU to Plunge! Be bold & dare the cold! Let’s do this together for Special O! Be sure to stop by C149 today to pick up your forms! Check out the student activities page to register on-line.

Tonight, Tuesday, February 7th, be sure to get your tickets for the DGS Dance Showcase! Remember these performers are dancing for a reason! Each ticket sold supports Special Olympics! Come support these performances and show your Mustang Pride!

The Downers Grove American Legion Post #80 is seeking participants for their American Legion Auxiliary Illini Girls State Leadership program. The camp will be held at Eastern Illinois University from June 18- 26. The program offers hands-on experiences in the operation and fundamentals of government. Camp registration fees for participants are paid by the sponsoring American Legion post. Registration is open to those students who will be entering their senior year in August 2017. If you are interested, please stop by the Social Studies office (D272) to pick up an application.

Summer School Drivers Ed Registration has begun.  Students must be 15 by June 14, 2017.  Talk to your counselor for more information.

Get your act together!  Can you sing, dance, tell stories, and teach about your culture? Would you like to read a poem, explain a tradition, etc.?  Then we would love to have you!  Cultures in Alliance (CIA) will have open auditions on Monday February 27th in the Little Theatre at 3:30pm. Our annual talent show will take place on Friday March 17th.  If you have any questions, please stop by A110 and see Mr. Vetri. 

Are you ready to dodge, dip, dive, duck and dodge?  Get a team of 5 players together for our annual Dodgeball Tournament!  The tournament will take place on Thursday, February 16th!  Signup in the Student Activities office by February 14th.

Hey Mustangs are you aware? Mustangs Aware will be meeting on Tuesday 2/7 at 7:30 am in room D171. We will be discussing the school wide philanthropy event and much more.  Join us and bring a friend!  Show you care become aware!

Anime club meetings are changing and will now meet every Tuesday after school in room A220.

Attention Adventure Club: parent permission forms are available in D170 for Whirly ball.  Stop by and pick them up.

The Dean’s Office is still in need of office aides for Periods 1, 4B, 7, and 8.  If you are interested, please stop by the Dean’s Office, Room A104 to pick up a request form.

The Attendance Office is looking for student aides for 1st, 2nd, & 7th periods.  If you are interested, please stop by the Attendance Office, Room A103 to pick up a request form.

CALLIOPE:  South’s student-run fine arts and literary magazine is accepting submissions for our book due out in May.  We’re looking for student writing and artwork.  Submissions can be emailed to Mr. Kuhn, Ms. Lynn, or Ms. Rowley.

ATHLETICS

Superfans! This Friday our boys’ basketball team takes on rival Hinsdale South. We will be having a red-out in support of our school-wide philanthropy project, Special Olympics! T-shirts will be for sale during lunch periods on Thursday and Friday for $10… proceeds will benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Come out and support a great cause and cheer your mustangs on to victory!

Boys interested in coming out for the freshmen/sophomore tennis team, please attend an informational meeting on Tuesday February 7th at 7:40 AM in room A308.  If you have questions, please ask Coach Kud or Coach Forst.

Boys Volleyball will be having open gym on Wednesday, February 8th 7-8:30 p.m. in the large gym.
