ACTIVITIES

Do you like field trips? Are you interested in experiencing how government really works? For the first time ever DGS students have the opportunity to travel with North students to Washington DC. You will explore and experience our nation’s capital, discuss issues with students from all over the country, and meet members of Congress. For more information, see Dr. Esposito in the Social Studies office (D272). Initial sign-up forms are due on October 21st so don’t delay.

Attention Seniors:  If you have not been photographed by Prestige Portraits and still would like to be pictured in the yearbook, please come to the Auditorium before school, after school or during a resource period on Monday, October 17th.  Prestige will be here to take Senior Yearbook photos.  No appointment necessary.

For this last week of Hispanic Heritage Month, Spanish Club would like to honor Cesar Chavez, who was an American labor leader and civil rights activist during the 1960's and 70's. He was a co-founder of the National Farm Workers Association, which was created to improve treatment, pay, and working conditions for farm workers. Additionally, Chavez led many boycotts and strikes to stand up for the rights of laborers and pave the way for labor unions and workers’ organizations today.

Thanks for your participation in Red Ribbon Week activities this year. Remember, if you or someone you care about is struggling with issues related to drug or alcohol use, talk to a trusted adult or reach out to a member of the Counseling and Student Support Services Department for help. Most teens at DGS make the positive decision NOT to use drugs or alcohol to manage stress and conflict in their lives. Find healthy ways to create balance every day.

Time for your Earth Action Club-sponsored Energy Joke.  Are you ready?  “Why did the lights go out? Because they liked each other!” Speaking of lights, using motion-detector lights like the ones in school can really cut down on energy bills.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Get your Pink shirt to wear for Friday’s Pink Out game. They will be for sale during lunches and in the Athletic office. The shirts are $10. Show your Spirit and your Support! Buy one today---They go fast!
