ACTIVITIES

In recognition of Black History Month, we present a page in Black History.

On this date, February 21, 1964-Malcom X assassinated at age 39 in the Audubon ballroom at a rally of his organization. Three black men were later convicted of the crime and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Thanks to our students, National Bus Driver Appreciation Week was a huge success last week.  You should know that the kind words expressed by many DGS students were well-received by the drivers who passed along positive feedback to the First Student bus company and to DGS administrators.
Never underestimate the power of a compliment or even two simple words--THANK YOU.
And always remember: It's the Mustang Way!

Attention Seniors:  Do you need help reading your Award Letter?  Bring your copy of the Award Letter because DGS is providing a “Financial Aid Award Letter Comparison Workshop” on Thursday, February 23rd in Room A109 during lunch periods.   

“Did you know that one of the most prevalent chronic childhood illness is pediatric dental disease? February is National Children’s Dental Health month. FCCLA will be participating in the America’s ToothFairy Smile Drive. They will be collecting children’s toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, and mouthwash, during all lunch periods on Thursday, February 23 and Friday, February 24 in the cafeteria. Let’s come together to brighten children’s smiles.”

Attention Freshmen, Sophomores & Juniors:
DGS will be hosting a College Exploration Night on Wednesday, March 15th, at 7:00 pm in the Auditorium for students and their parents.  There will be representatives from four different types of colleges/universities - Selective, Public. Large and Small Private.  There will also be representatives from the Armed Forces available to answer questions.  Also, a session in Essay Writing will be offered.  If you have any questions, please stop by the College & Career Center.

“It’s award season! If you have read four or more of the Abe Award Nominees cast your vote between February 15th and March 15th. You can vote in person at the library, or online via the DGS Library website. We will reveal DGS’ Abe winner on March 16th, 2017.”

The DuPage County Election Commission is providing the opportunity for juniors and seniors to serve as Judges of Elections for the Consolidate General Election on April 4, 2017. In order to serve as an Election Judge a student must be a U.S citizen with a G.P.A of 3.0 and complete a mandatory training class. Applications are available in the Social Studies office (D272). Completed applications need to be submitted to the Social Studies office my March 1, 2017. Training will be conducted on March 18, 2017.

Auditions for the Masque and Gavel Talent show will be held on Wednesday, February 22, beginning at 3:30PM. We are looking for talents of all kind, so if you can dance, sing, plan an instrument, juggle or have a killer stand-up routine, come on out and audition! Pick up an audition form on the board outside of D175. Questions? See Mr. Matkovich or Ms. Rubin.

Summer School Drivers Ed Registration has begun.  Students must be 15 by June 14, 2017.  Applications are available in the counseling office, Room A110. Talk to your counselor for more information.

Mustangs, we need YOU to Plunge! Be bold & dare the cold! Let’s do this together for Special O! Be sure to stop by C149 today to pick up your forms! Check out the student activities page to register on-line.

Get your act together!  Can you sing, dance, tell stories, and teach about your culture? Would you like to read a poem, explain a tradition, etc.?  Then we would love to have you!  Cultures in Alliance (CIA) will have open auditions on Monday February 27th in the Little Theatre at 3:30 pm. Our annual talent show will take place on Friday March 17th.  If you have any questions, please stop by A110 and see Mr. Vetri. 

Adventure Club: parent permission forms are available for Whirly ball.  Stop by and pick them up in D170.

The Dean’s Office is still in need of office aides for Periods 1, 4B, 7, and 8.  If you are interested, please stop by the Dean’s Office, Room A104 to pick up a request form.

The Attendance Office is looking for student aides for 1st, 2nd, & 7th periods.  If you are interested, please stop by the Attendance Office, Room A103 to pick up a request form.
