Christopher Esposito

Christopher Esposito joined District 99 in 2003 and serves as the department chair for the dedicated Social Studies faculty at Downers Grove South. He also serves as a moderator for Student Council and currently teaches a course on Multicultural Studies.

Prior to serving in his current role, Esposito taught Social Studies for ten years at Downers South and last year taught US History. He also taught for two years at Montini Catholic High School.

Esposito received a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Northern Illinois University, and earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum Studies from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Esposito and his wife, Becca, have been married for 13 years and he is the proud dad of Caleigh and Nicholas; both future Mustangs!

Teaching philosophy: The aim of education is to develop in students the capacity to be critical and analytical thinkers so that they can read the world, write the world, and speak to the world. These skills strengthen our democracy in that they teach students to be accepting of others who differ from them, challenge inequality, and engage them civically so that they work to foster justice in our world. Social Studies specifically should develop citizens who challenge the status quo, critically consume knowledge, and ask difficult questions. To do such things the curriculum must have students explore persisting issues and problems that reoccur throughout time and make decisions about how a society should proceed.
