Senior Year
Tips for a successful senior year
Summer (before the school year begins)
- Prioritize your list of colleges or universities.
- Continue to visit colleges.
- Determine deadlines for college admissions and scholarships.
- Create or update your resume.
- Register for the ACT or SAT if needed.
- Make sure that senior courses meet or exceed college expectations.
- Student athletes: Make sure you are meeting Division I and II requirements. Visit the NCAA Eligibility Center.
Fall
- Attend your Senior Counselor Conference to discuss your personal post-secondary plans. Counselors will present a Focus presentation to review the general application process.
- Review "College Application Process" videos after your Senior Focus presentation.
- Determine admissions deadlines - some schools have early deadlines in October and November.
- Start applying for scholarships.
- Earn good grades.
- APPLY EARLY!
Mid-Year
- Ensure that your applications are complete.
- Complete financial aid process and FAFSA.
- Continue applying for scholarships.
- Attend DGS Financial Aid (FAFSA) Night presentations in October
- Complete your FAFSA (Application opens Oct. 1)
Spring
- Make your final college/post secondary decision.
- Review your plan to get there.
- Continue to work hard in your classes! Despite admittance to college, your grades still count and colleges can revoke your admission!
- Take AP test(s) as needed. (Registration for AP exams will begin in February).
- Continue applying for scholarships.
- Complete Senior Exit Survey in April
- Complete NCAA requirements (student athletes).
