District 99 will host an informational session about the roles and responsibilities of serving as a member of a Board of Education at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. The casual informational session, “Who Wants to Be a School Board Member?,” will be held at the school district’s administrative service center, located at 6301 Springside Avenue in Downers Grove, Illinois.
“We want to provide community members with a chance to learn more about what it’s really like to run and serve on a school board,” said Dr. Hank Thiele, superintendent of District 99. “These are important considerations to take before taking the time to run for office and committing to serve.” In addition to being superintendent of District 99, Dr. Thiele served as a school board member in Roselle, Illinois.
District 99, which includes Downers Grove North High School and Downers Grove South High School, is governed by a 7-member Board of Education. Elected members are unpaid volunteers who serve 4-year, staggered terms. At District 99, four seats are up for reelection in March 2025.
The window to file nominations with the DuPage County Election Board is November 12 through November 18, 2024. Prospective candidates seeking information can download School Board petition packets here.
