Downers Grove South High School has resumed normal school activities, and the school will be holding traditional homecoming events the week of September 20, 2021. To allow for participation to take place without masks, many events will be held outside this year.
“We are so excited to be able to hold homecoming week for our students, it is such a cherished tradition and something for us all to look forward to,” says Director of Student Activities Jennifer Martinez. “We thank the South High neighbors and friends in advance for their support in this special time for our students.”
The theme of the week, “Out of This World Homecoming,” will include opportunities for the public to participate:
- On Thursday, September 23, 2021 at dusk (7:30 p.m.), the public is invited to watch the movie “Space Jam” on the 63rd St. East Turf Field. The school invites the public to bring blankets and chairs; no food or beverages will be allowed.
- On Friday, September 24, 2021 at 3:15 p.m. the public is invited to watch the Homecoming Parade. The parade route will head south on Springside, east on Bolson and north on Dunham and include the school’s marching band and floats. The football game will then start at 6 p.m.; admission is free for students with ID, $5 for adults and free for senior citizens.
South High will notify neighbors nearby the school of these events, as well as the Homecoming Rally that will be held in the stadium on Friday at 2 p.m. and the dance that will be held outside on the football field on Saturday, September 25. The dance will start at 6:30 p.m. and include a DJ, music and dancing and conclude with fireworks at 9:15 p.m. The festivities will conclude at 9:30 p.m.
