District 99 appointed two new student representatives from each of its schools to serve on the District Board of Education for the 20-21 school year. The student board members are seniors Sam Bull from Downers Grove North High School and Zoe Boyd from Downers Grove South High School.
Student members are appointed by their school principals and serve for one school year. Although they do not vote nor participate in closed session meetings, students advise the board and represent the student body. This is the third year that the board has installed students to serve as representatives.
“Since I’ve entered high school I’ve been interested in impacting my community in any way that I can,” said Bull during his first meeting as a student representative. “I think that the things I can do here can impact and help the student body and the community in a positive way.” Bull also serves as editor-in-chief of The Omega, the student newspaper, and is captain of the soccer team.
“I’m really excited to be here,” said Boyd. She also shared that she loves music and art, and is on the speech team and is president of the Mask and Gavel club.
