On June 3, 2016, the District 99 Board of Education approved a four-year contract agreement with the Downers Grove Education Association, which is the collective bargaining unit for District 99’s certified staff. The approval followed the ratification of the contract by members of the Association. The agreement will replace the current contract, which has been in place since 2012.
“We worked closely with a team of teachers for several months to create the renewed agreement,” says District 99 Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Pete Theis. “The entire process was a professional and respectful one, which is a direct reflection of our district’s collaborative culture.”
“The agreement is responsible, and represents a win for both our community and our schools,” says Board of Education President Nancy Kupka. “The financial aspects are sensitive to our current climate, and also allow us to remain competitive in attracting and retaining qualified teachers who provide us with superlative educational programming.”
Similar to past agreements that have kept salary increases within the amount of funds available and the budget balanced, the new agreement includes base salary increases that are tied to the Consumer Price Index-Urban (CPI-U). For example, all compensation components are expected to cost 1.42% and 1.24% for the 2016-17 and 2017-18 school years, respectively. The increase for the last two years of the contract will depend on future changes in the CPI-U.
The contract between District 99 and the Downers Grove Education Association includes more than 400 certified staff members, including teachers, department heads, deans and psychologists.
