Today on CBS This Morning, Brayer Teague, fine arts department chair at Downers Grove North High School, was named a “Top 10” finalist for the 2016 “Music Educator Award,” which is presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
The annual Music Educator Award was established to support music education by recognizing educators who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field, and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in schools. This year, the 10 finalists were selected from over 4,500 educators nominated from across the country.
Teague will receive a $1,000 honorarium as well as a matching $1,000 honorarium for Downers Grove North High School’s music program.
“I am honored beyond measure to learn I’m a Top 10 finalist for the 2016 GRAMMY Music Educator Award,” says Teague. “I consider it a true privilege to share my love of music and the arts with students each day, and I am grateful to the GRAMMY Foundation for using this award program to shine the spotlight on music education in our nation’s schools.”
From the Top 10 Finalists, a winner will be named and flown to Los Angeles during Grammy Week in February to accept the award, attend the ceremony and receive a $10,000 honorarium.
