The District 99 Board of Education held its monthly business meeting on October 19, 2015. Highlights of the meeting include:
Superintendent Search Update
During the closed session, School Exec Connect, the search firm the Board is using in the confidential superintendent search process, recommended candidates for the Board members to interview. The Board will interview six candidates at the end of October; a second round of interviews will be held the first week of November. The Board is targeting naming the next superintendent on December 14.
Issuance of $3.5 Million in Life Safety Bonds
The Board held a public hearing about issuing $3.5 million in Life Safety Bonds to support facilities projects at both North High and South High. Financing through bonds reduces pressure on the district’s operating budget. No one from the public spoke. The largest project will be to replace the boilers at North High, which is estimated to cost $1.9 million. The district submitted the recommended projects to the DuPage County Regional Office of Education and the Illinois State Board of Education for approval.
Revised Master Facility Plan
The district presented a revised Master Facility Plan (MFP), which was a directive of the strategic plan from 2011. The MFP was created after a two-year, comprehensive study of both school buildings and includes feedback and ideas from staff, students and community members about how our facilities need to function in the future. The initial concept plan was shared with the Board last April; administrators prioritized projects and adjusted the plan to reduce the projected cost to $70 million.
Board members discussed specific aspects of the plan and directed the administration to reconsider specific components that were eliminated after the presentation in April.
