The District 99 Board of Education held its business meeting on August 15, 2016.
Highlights include:
- State of the District and 2016-17 Goal Setting. District administrators reported highlights of a variety of 2015-16 school year initiatives. Accomplishments mentioned included the successful recruitment process of minority candidates, facilities projects completed using Life Safety bonds, and advancements in the District’s STEM curriculum. Superintendent Dr. Hank Thiele proposed a set of goals for 2016-17, which correlate closely to the Strategic Plan that was adopted in 2011. Click here to read the new goals.
- 2016-17 Tentative Budget – District 99 Controller Mark Staehlin presented the tentative operating budget for the 2016-17 fiscal year. The proposed budget will be on display for a month; the Board will vote to adopt it at its next business meeting on September 19, 2016. In order to lessen the impact of uncertain revenues from the State of Illinois on its operations, District 99’s proposed revenues ($87.6 million) exceed expenses ($83.8 million) by approximately $3.8 million. District 99 proposes continuing to address as many large capital projects before other possible negative financial actions are imposed; Life Safety funding helps provide relief and stability. Please refer to the memo for details about the tentative budget and click here for other supporting financial documents.
- Board actions taken – Board Members unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included continued participation in grant programs. The tentative budget was also approved.
