Announcement by Janice Schwarze, Principal of North High, on August 19, 2019
Good morning! This is Mrs. Schwarze, your principal. I hope everyone had a great summer, and you are ready for a fantastic school year.
H Jackson Brown Jr. has written books about how to live a happy and rewarding life. One piece of advice he gives is: “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
This year I hope you will listen to his advice and make the most of your time at North High. Make new friends, try new activities, and of course learn new things. If you stumble as you broaden your horizon, that’s okay. Struggling is part of life and how we grow. High school is the perfect time to expand your comfort zone because you have many caring adults here at North who are ready to help you if needed.
In fact, our summer reading book, Failing Up, by Leslie Odom Jr. addresses the benefits of taking calculated risks and failing spectacularly. If you ordered a book last spring and haven’t picked it up yet, be sure to stop by the main office to pick up your copy. We still have a limited number of copies available for sale for $4.00 in the bookstore if you still need to purchase a copy. The entire school will be discussing the book this Friday, so be sure to read it before then!
I know it’s going to be a great school year. Have a wonderful day and remember to be respectful, responsible, and engaged.
