District 99 students competed for top honors among several area high school students in various categories in the fields of STEM, Business, Humanities, Performing Arts and Visual Arts at the 2019 Annual DuPage County ACT-SO competition, which was held at the College of DuPage on Saturday, March 16.
North High's Jordan Shelton received a Silver Medal in Physics.
Several hundred attendees, including parents, ACT-SO alumni, volunteers, partners and local elected officials celebrated the hard work of the 2018-19 DuPage County ACT-SO students at the Awards Banquet, which was held the next day at Bolingbrook Golf Club.
“Congratulations to Jordan for this wonderful accomplishment. Participation in this competition requires a great deal of hard work, and I am impressed by both his dedication and his knowledge,” North High principal Janice Schwarze said. “DuPage County ACT-SO is an outstanding organization providing life enrichment opportunities for our students.”
The mission of the DuPage County ACT-SO program is to nurture excellence and provide positive reinforcement to African American high school students. DuPage County ACT-SO partners with the community to raise cultural awareness, showcase talents, academic achievements and entrepreneurial skills, as well as develop leaders and provide life enrichment opportunities without regard to educational or economic status.
