The following are comments that Principal Schwarze spoke to the student body on Monday, November 14, 2016:
First, I want to thank you again for your respectful behavior on Wednesday during the Veterans Day Assembly and throughout the day. While much of the country was in turmoil about the election, North High united to honor our Veterans, and I couldn't have been prouder.
I am sure that many of you are aware of the many protests that have occurred in the last week - as well as incidents of overt racism and hate crimes. While we cannot control what is happening in the country, we can control what happens here at DGN. It is okay to respectfully disagree with one another; however, it is definitely not okay to insult or offend those who are different from you or who hold different opinions. If you hear or see something that is making you or someone else uncomfortable, please let an adult in the building know immediately so that we can address the behavior and maintain the respectful learning environment we expect at North High.
Finally, it is important for us to remember that it is our diversity that makes us stronger. Every single person in this building is valued and deserves kindness and respect. During this chaotic time in our country, compassion for one another has never been more important. Please take care of each other and reach out to those in need. Show your support to those who are struggling. Remember, together we are stronger. Together We Are DGN.
Thanks for your time. Have a great day.
